1 καὶ Ἰησοῦς πρεσβύτερος προβεβηκὼς τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Ἰησοῦν σὺ προβέβηκας τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ ἡ γῆ ὑπολέλειπται πολλὴ εἰς κληρονομίαν 2 καὶ αὕτη ἡ γῆ ἡ καταλελειμμένη ὅρια Φυλιστιιμ ὁ Γεσιρι καὶ ὁ Χαναναῖος 3 ἀπὸ τῆς ἀοικήτου τῆς κατὰ πρόσωπον Αἰγύπτου ἕως τῶν ὁρίων Ακκαρων ἐξ εὐωνύμων τῶν Χαναναίων προσλογίζεται ταῖς πέντε σατραπείαις τῶν Φυλιστιιμ τῷ Γαζαίῳ καὶ τῷ Ἀζωτίῳ καὶ τῷ Ἀσκαλωνίτῃ καὶ τῷ Γεθθαίῳ καὶ τῷ Ακκαρωνίτῃ καὶ τῷ Ευαίῳ 4 ἐκ Θαιμαν καὶ πάσῃ γῇ Χανααν ἐναντίον Γάζης καὶ οἱ Σιδώνιοι ἕως Αφεκ ἕως τῶν ὁρίων τῶν Αμορραίων 5 καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Γαβλι Φυλιστιιμ καὶ πάντα τὸν Λίβανον ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν ἡλίου ἀπὸ Γαλγαλ ὑπὸ τὸ ὄρος τὸ Αερμων ἕως τῆς εἰσόδου Εμαθ 6 πᾶς ὁ κατοικῶν τὴν ὀρεινὴν ἀπὸ τοῦ Λιβάνου ἕως τῆς Μασερεφωθμαιμ πάντας τοὺς Σιδωνίους ἐγὼ αὐτοὺς ἐξολεθρεύσω ἀπὸ προσώπου Ισραηλ ἀλλὰ διάδος αὐτὴν ἐν κλήρῳ τῷ Ισραηλ ὃν τρόπον σοι ἐνετειλάμην 1 Afterwards, when Josue was old and near his end, the Lord bade him bethink himself of his great age; here were wide tracts of land still waiting to be apportioned. 2 Here was the pale of the Philistines,[1] with all the Gessurite land, 3 reaching northwards to Accaron from the dark river that flows along the border of Egypt. This was Chanaanite country, in which five princes of the Philistine race had their capitals, at Gaza, Azotus, Ascalon, Geth and Accaron. 4 Here, too in the south, were the Hevites. Here was all the Chanaanite territory, including Maara (that belonged to the Sidonians), reaching up to Apheca and the Amorrhite frontier, 5 and the adjoining territory of the Giblites. East of that came the Lebanon region, from Baalgad, under mount Hermon, right up to the approaches of Emath. 6 So many mountain peoples, from Lebanon down to the waters of Maserephoth; and all these were to be dispossessed at Israel’s coming. These lands, in pursuance of the Lord’s command, must be reckoned in among the possessions of Israel. Libani quoque regio contra orientem, a Baalgad sub monte Hermon, donec ingrediaris Emath; 6 omnium qui habitant in monte a Libano usque ad aquas Maserephoth, universique Sidonii. Ego sum qui delebo eos a facie filiorum Israël. Veniat ergo in partem hæreditatis Israël, sicut præcepi tibi.
7 καὶ νῦν μέρισον τὴν γῆν ταύτην ἐν κληρονομίᾳ ταῖς ἐννέα φυλαῖς καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασση ἀπὸ τοῦ Ιορδάνου ἕως τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς μεγάλης κατὰ δυσμὰς ἡλίου δώσεις αὐτήν ἡ θάλασσα ἡ μεγάλη ὁριεῖ 7 It was time, then, that he should make a full division of the land among the nine tribes, and that half of Manasses which was attached to them. 7 Et nunc divide terram in possessionem novem tribubus, et dimidiæ tribui Manasse,
8 ταῖς δὲ δύο φυλαῖς καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασση τῷ Ρουβην καὶ τῷ Γαδ ἔδωκεν Μωυσῆς ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου κα{T'} ἀνατολὰς ἡλίου δέδωκεν αὐτὴν Μωυσῆς ὁ παῖς κυρίου 9 ἀπὸ Αροηρ ἥ ἐστιν ἐπὶ τοῦ χείλους χειμάρρου Αρνων καὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς φάραγγος καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν Μισωρ ἀπὸ Μαιδαβα ἕως Δαιβαν 10 πάσας τὰς πόλεις Σηων βασιλέως Αμορραίων ὃς ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Εσεβων ἕως τῶν ὁρίων υἱῶν Αμμων 11 καὶ τὴν Γαλααδίτιδα καὶ τὰ ὅρια Γεσιρι καὶ τοῦ Μαχατι πᾶν ὄρος Αερμων καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν Βασανῖτιν ἕως Σελχα 12 πᾶσαν τὴν βασιλείαν Ωγ ἐν τῇ Βασανίτιδι ὃς ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ασταρωθ καὶ ἐν Εδραϊν οὗτος κατελείφθη ἀπὸ τῶν γιγάντων καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν Μωυσῆς καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσεν 13 καὶ οὐκ ἐξωλέθρευσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ τὸν Γεσιρι καὶ τὸν Μαχατι καὶ τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ κατῴκει βασιλεὺς Γεσιρι καὶ ὁ Μαχατι ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας 8 The other half of Manasses had already had their lands apportioned to them by Moses east of the Jordan, with Ruben and Gad, 9 northwards from Aroer on the Arnon, half-way along its course; the whole plain between Medaba and Dibon, 10 and all the cities as far as the Ammonite frontier that belonged once to Sehon, the Amorrhite king of Hesebon. 11 Galaad, too, and the border country of Gessuri and Machati, and mount Hermon, and the whole of Basan right up to Salecha; 12 this kingdom of Basan had formerly belonged to Og, the last of the Raphaim, who dwelt at Astaroth and Edrai. These two kings Moses defeated and destroyed, 13 but Israel never dispossessed the people of Gessuri and Machati; they dwell there as their neighbours to this day.
14 πλὴν τῆς φυλῆς Λευι οὐκ ἐδόθη κληρονομία κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ισραηλ οὗτος αὐτῶν κληρονομία καθὰ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς κύριος καὶ οὗτος ὁ καταμερισμός ὃν κατεμέρισεν Μωυσῆς τοῖς υἱοῖς Ισραηλ ἐν Αραβωθ Μωαβ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου κατὰ Ιεριχω 15 καὶ ἔδωκεν Μωυσῆς τῇ φυλῇ Ρουβην κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν 16 καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῶν τὰ ὅρια ἀπὸ Αροηρ ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον φάραγγος Αρνων καὶ ἡ πόλις ἡ ἐν τῇ φάραγγι Αρνων καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν Μισωρ 17 ἕως Εσεβων καὶ πάσας τὰς πόλεις τὰς οὔσας ἐν τῇ Μισωρ καὶ Δαιβων καὶ Βαμωθβααλ καὶ οἴκου Βεελμων 18 καὶ Ιασσα καὶ Κεδημωθ καὶ Μεφααθ 19 καὶ Καριαθαιμ καὶ Σεβαμα καὶ Σεραδα καὶ Σιωρ ἐν τῷ ὄρει Εμακ 20 καὶ Βαιθφογωρ καὶ Ασηδωθ Φασγα καὶ Βαιθασιμωθ 21 καὶ πάσας τὰς πόλεις τοῦ Μισωρ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Σηων βασιλέως τῶν Αμορραίων ὃν ἐπάταξεν Μωυσῆς αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς ἡγουμένους Μαδιαμ καὶ τὸν Ευι καὶ τὸν Ροκομ καὶ τὸν Σουρ καὶ τὸν Ουρ καὶ τὸν Ροβε ἄρχοντας παρὰ Σηων καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας τὴν γῆν 22 καὶ τὸν Βαλααμ τὸν τοῦ Βεωρ τὸν μάντιν ἀπέκτειναν ἐν τῇ ῥοπῇ 23 ἐγένετο δὲ τὰ ὅρια Ρουβην Ιορδάνης ὅριον αὕτη ἡ κληρονομία υἱῶν Ρουβην κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν αἱ πόλεις αὐτῶν καὶ αἱ ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν 14 (The tribe of Levi had no lands apportioned to them; the Lord God of Israel had bidden them be content with the victims offered to him in sacrifice as their portion.) 15 The tribe of Ruben, with all its several clans, received its portion from Moses. 16 Their territory began at Aroer, on the Arnon, half-way up its course, and took in all the valley that lies before Medaba, 17 and Hesebon, and the villages on the plain round about. They had Dibon, too, and Bamothbaal, and the town called Baalmaon, 18 Jassa, Cedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 Cariathaim, and Sabama, and Sarathasar, where the hills rise out of the Jordan valley; 20 Bethphogor and the spurs of Phasga and Bethjesimoth. 21 Theirs were all the cities in the plain, all the domains that once were Sehon’s. (It was Moses that defeated Sehon, as he defeated also the Madianite chiefs that held their lands from him, Hevi, Recem, Sur, Hur and Rebe, 22 and bade the Israelites put all their army to the sword, the prophet Balaam among them.) 23 Such were the towns and villages that passed into the possession of Ruben’s descendants, and they had the river Jordan for their boundary.
24 ἔδωκεν δὲ Μωυσῆς τοῖς υἱοῖς Γαδ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν 25 καὶ ἐγένετο τὰ ὅρια αὐτῶν Ιαζηρ πᾶσαι αἱ πόλεις Γαλααδ καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ γῆς υἱῶν Αμμων ἕως Αροηρ ἥ ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον Ραββα 26 καὶ ἀπὸ Εσεβων ἕως Ραμωθ κατὰ τὴν Μασσηφα καὶ Βοτανιν καὶ Μααναιν ἕως τῶν ὁρίων Δαβιρ 27 καὶ ἐν Εμεκ Βαιθαραμ καὶ Βαιθαναβρα καὶ Σοκχωθα καὶ Σαφαν καὶ τὴν λοιπὴν βασιλείαν Σηων βασιλέως Εσεβων καὶ ὁ Ιορδάνης ὁριεῖ ἕως μέρους τῆς θαλάσσης Χενερεθ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου ἀ{P'} ἀνατολῶν 28 αὕτη ἡ κληρονομία υἱῶν Γαδ κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν αἱ πόλεις αὐτῶν καὶ αἱ ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν 24 It was Moses, too, who gave the tribe of Gad their portion, dividing it up among the several clans of it. 25 Jazer belonged to them, and all the cities of Galaad, and half the Ammonite territory, reaching as far as Aroer, near Rabba. 26 It stretched all the way from Hesebon to Ramoth, Masphe and Betonim, from Manaim to the country round Dabir; 27 and on the low ground it contained Betharam, Bethnemra, Socoth and Saphon, all the rest of what Sehon had ruled from Hesebon; this tribe, too, had Jordan for its boundary, up to where the further, eastern shore of Lake Cenereth begins. 28 Such were the cities and towns allotted to the several clans of Gad as their portion.
29 καὶ ἔδωκεν Μωυσῆς τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς Μανασση κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν 30 καὶ ἐγένετο τὰ ὅρια αὐτῶν ἀπὸ Μααναιμ καὶ πᾶσα βασιλεία Βασανι καὶ πᾶσα βασιλεία Ωγ βασιλέως Βασαν καὶ πάσας τὰς κώμας Ιαϊρ αἵ εἰσιν ἐν τῇ Βασανίτιδι ἑξήκοντα πόλεις 31 καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ τῆς Γαλααδ καὶ ἐν Ασταρωθ καὶ ἐν Εδραϊν πόλεις βασιλείας Ωγ ἐν Βασανίτιδι καὶ ἐδόθησαν τοῖς υἱοῖς Μαχιρ υἱοῦ Μανασση καὶ τοῖς ἡμίσεσιν υἱοῖς Μαχιρ υἱοῦ Μανασση κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν 32 οὗτοι οὓς κατεκληρονόμησεν Μωυσῆς πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου ἐν Αραβωθ Μωαβ ἐν τῷ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου κατὰ Ιεριχω ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν 33 29 And he also allotted lands to the separated clans of Manasses; 30 the whole of Basan northwards from Manaim, all the domain over which Og, king of Basan, had ruled. This included the sixty townships in Basan which are called Jair’s villages, 31 and half of Galaad, and the two cities from which Og ruled over Basan, Astaroth and Edrai. All this now belonged to the descendants of Machir, son of Manasses, Machir’s clans being thus separated from the rest. 32 Such was the distribution made by Moses himself, on the plains of Moab, east of Jordan, opposite Jericho. 33 He gave no lands to the sons of Levi, who held the Lord’s promise that he himself would be their portion.
