1 καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου πρός με λέγων 2 υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου στήρισον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη Ισραηλ καὶ προφήτευσον ἐ{P'} αὐτὰ 3 καὶ ἐρεῖς τὰ ὄρη Ισραηλ ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου τάδε λέγει κύριος τοῖς ὄρεσιν καὶ τοῖς βουνοῖς καὶ ταῖς φάραγξιν καὶ ταῖς νάπαις ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω ἐ{F'} ὑμᾶς ῥομφαίαν καὶ ἐξολεθρευθήσεται τὰ ὑψηλὰ ὑμῶν 4 καὶ συντριβήσονται τὰ θυσιαστήρια ὑμῶν καὶ τὰ τεμένη ὑμῶν καὶ καταβαλῶ τραυματίας ὑμῶν ἐνώπιον τῶν εἰδώλων ὑμῶν 5 καὶ διασκορπιῶ τὰ ὀστᾶ ὑμῶν κύκλῳ τῶν θυσιαστηρίων ὑμῶν 6 ἐν πάσῃ τῇ κατοικίᾳ ὑμῶν αἱ πόλεις ἐξερημωθήσονται καὶ τὰ ὑψηλὰ ἀφανισθήσεται ὅπως ἐξολεθρευθῇ τὰ θυσιαστήρια ὑμῶν καὶ συντριβήσονται τὰ εἴδωλα ὑμῶν καὶ ἐξαρθήσεται τὰ τεμένη ὑμῶν 7 καὶ πεσοῦνται τραυματίαι ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγὼ κύριος 1 And now the Lord’s word came to me: 2 Turn thy eyes, son of man, towards the hills of thy own country, and prophesy their doom. 3 Mountains of Israel, thou shalt say, listen to the word of the Lord God; here is a message from the Lord God to mountain and hill, to rocky slope and river-bed. I mean to let the sword loose on you, pull shrine down, 4 overthrow altar, break column, pile corpses before the false god’s feet; 5 before every idol, sons of Israel prostrate in death, before every altar, the ground strewn with their bones. 6 In all your confines, every city desolate, every shrine wrecked and ruined; deserted and defaced the altars, forlorn the idols, shattered the columns, obliterated all the work of man; 7 and ever the dead lying in the midst of you. Will you doubt, then, the power of the Lord?[1] 1 Et factus est sermo Domini ad me, dicens: 2 Fili hominis, pone faciem tuam ad montes Israël, et prophetabis ad eos, 3 et dices:

Montes Israël,
audite verbum Domini Dei.
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus
montibus et collibus,
rupibus et vallibus:
Ecce ego inducam super vos gladium,
et disperdam excelsa vestra,
4
et demoliar aras vestras,
et confringentur simulacra vestra,
et dejiciam interfectos vestros
ante idola vestra:
5
et dabo cadavera filiorum Israël
ante faciem simulacrorum vestrorum,
et dispergam ossa vestra
circum aras vestras:
6
in omnibus habitationibus vestris
urbes desertæ erunt,
et excelsa demolientur et dissipabuntur:
et interibunt aræ vestræ, et confringentur,
et cessabunt idola vestra,
et conterentur delubra vestra,
et delebuntur opera vestra:
7
et cadet interfectus in medio vestri,
et scietis quia ego sum Dominus.
8 ἐν τῷ γενέσθαι ἐξ ὑμῶν ἀνασῳζομένους ἐκ ῥομφαίας ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐν τῷ διασκορπισμῷ ὑμῶν ἐν ταῖς χώραις 9 καὶ μνησθήσονταί μου οἱ ἀνασῳζόμενοι ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν οὗ ᾐχμαλωτεύθησαν ἐκεῖ ὀμώμοκα τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν τῇ ἐκπορνευούσῃ ἀ{P'} ἐμοῦ καὶ τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτῶν τοῖς πορνεύουσιν ὀπίσω τῶν ἐπιτηδευμάτων αὐτῶν καὶ κόψονται πρόσωπα αὐτῶν ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς βδελύγμασιν αὐτῶν 10 καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ κύριος λελάληκα 8 I will leave a remnant of you; some shall escape the sword, to live on among the Gentiles, dispersed far and wide; 9 and these survivors, in their land of exile, shall once again bethink themselves of me. Wanton heart that played me false, eyes that hankered still after idols, shall be tamed now; they will look back with loathing on all the foul wrong they did, 10 and confess it was no empty boast, when I threatened this calamity.[2] 8
Et relinquam in vobis eos
qui fugerint gladium in gentibus,
cum dispersero vos in terris:
9
et recordabuntur mei liberati vestri in gentibus
ad quas captivi ducti sunt:
quia contrivi cor eorum
fornicans et recedens a me,
et oculos eorum fornicantes post idola sua:
et displicebunt sibimet super malis
quæ fecerunt in universis abominationibus suis.
10
Et scient quia ego Dominus non frustra locutus sum,
ut facerem eis malum hoc.
11 τάδε λέγει κύριος κρότησον τῇ χειρὶ καὶ ψόφησον τῷ ποδὶ καὶ εἰπόν εὖγε εὖγε ἐπὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς βδελύγμασιν οἴκου Ισραηλ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἐν θανάτῳ καὶ ἐν λιμῷ πεσοῦνται 12 ὁ ἐγγὺς ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ πεσεῖται ὁ δὲ μακρὰν ἐν θανάτῳ τελευτήσει καὶ ὁ περιεχόμενος ἐν λιμῷ συντελεσθήσεται καὶ συντελέσω τὴν ὀργήν μου ἐ{P'} αὐτούς 13 καὶ γνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ κύριος ἐν τῷ εἶναι τοὺς τραυματίας ὑμῶν ἐν μέσῳ τῶν εἰδώλων ὑμῶν κύκλῳ τῶν θυσιαστηρίων ὑμῶν ἐπὶ πάντα βουνὸν ὑψηλὸν καὶ ὑποκάτω δένδρου συσκίου οὗ ἔδωκαν ἐκεῖ ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας πᾶσι τοῖς εἰδώλοις αὐτῶν 14 καὶ ἐκτενῶ τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐ{P'} αὐτοὺς καὶ θήσομαι τὴν γῆν εἰς ἀφανισμὸν καὶ εἰς ὄλεθρον ἀπὸ τῆς ἐρήμου Δεβλαθα ἐκ πάσης τῆς κατοικίας καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγὼ κύριος 11 Clap hands and stamp feet, the Lord God says, and cry aloud, Out upon the foul wrong the men of Israel did, that are now doomed to perish by sword, famine and pestilence! 12 Keep they their distance, the plague shall smite them, come they to grips, the sword; safe behind the battlements, they shall die of famine; so shall my vengeance take toll of them. 13 Who shall doubt the Lord’s power, when the dead lie thick at the feet of your idols and about your altars; on hill-top and mountain height, in forest covert and under spreading oak, where once men would burn fragrant incense to their false gods? 14 When the blow falls, I will make their countryside, once so thickly inhabited, into a wilderness; Deblatha[3] itself is not more forlorn. And who shall doubt the Lord’s power? 11
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:
Percute manum tuam
et complebo indignationem meam in eis.
13
Et scietis quia ego Dominus,
cum fuerint interfecti vestri in medio idolorum vestrorum,
in circuitu ararum vestrarum,
in omni colle excelso,
et in cunctis summitatibus montium,
et subtus omne lignum nemorosum,
et subtus universam quercum frondosam,
locum ubi accenderunt thura redolentia universis idolis suis.
14
Et extendam manum meam super eos:
et faciam terram desolatam et destitutam,
a deserto Deblatha, in omnibus habitationibus eorum:
et scient quia ego Dominus.
