| 1 ὁ λόγος ὃν ἐλάλησεν Ιερεμιας ὁ προφήτης πρὸς Βαρουχ υἱὸν Νηριου ὅτε ἔγραφεν τοὺς λόγους τούτους ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ ἀπὸ στόματος Ιερεμιου ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ τετάρτῳ τῷ Ιωακιμ υἱῷ Ιωσια βασιλέως Ιουδα 2 οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἐπὶ σοί Βαρουχ 3 ὅτι εἶπας οἴμμοι οἴμμοι ὅτι προσέθηκεν κύριος κόπον ἐπὶ πόνον μοι ἐκοιμήθην ἐν στεναγμοῖς ἀνάπαυσιν οὐχ εὗρον 4 εἰπὸν αὐτῷ οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος ἰδοὺ οὓς ἐγὼ ᾠκοδόμησα ἐγὼ καθαιρῶ καὶ οὓς ἐγὼ ἐφύτευσα ἐγὼ ἐκτίλλω 5 καὶ σὺ ζητεῖς σεαυτῷ μεγάλα μὴ ζητήσῃς ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπάγω κακὰ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα λέγει κύριος καὶ δώσω τὴν ψυχήν σου εἰς εὕρεμα ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ οὗ ἐὰν βαδίσῃς ἐκεῖ | 1 When Baruch, son of Nerias, had written down the words dictated to him by Jeremias, in the fourth year of Joachim’s reign in Juda, this comfort Jeremias gave him:[1] 2 A message from the Lord, the God of Israel, to thee, Baruch! 3 Woe is thee, heavy is thy heart; sorrow upon sorrow the Lord gives thee, and respite thou canst find none. 4 Yet this message the Lord has for thee: Here am I destroying what my own hands built, uprooting what my own hands planted; 5 and for thee must it be all prizes? For prizes never look thou; enough for thee that, go thou where thou wilt, safe-conduct of thy life I am granting thee. | 1 Verbum quod locutus est Jeremias propheta ad Baruch filium Neriæ, cum scripsisset verba hæc in libro ex ore Jeremiæ, anno quarto Joakim filii Josiæ regis Juda, dicens: 2 Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israël ad te, Baruch: 3 Dixisti: Væ misero mihi! quoniam addidit Dominus dolorem dolori meo: laboravi in gemitu meo, et requiem non inveni. 4 Hæc dicit Dominus: Sic dices ad eum: Ecce quos ædificavi, ego destruo, et quos plantavi, ego evello, et universam terram hanc: 5 et tu quæris tibi grandia? noli quærere, quia ecce ego adducam malum super omnem carnem, ait Dominus, et dabo tibi animam tuam in salutem in omnibus locis ad quæcumque perrexeris. |
