He must needs present himself before the priest; 3 the priest, therefore, will go out of the camp to find him, and if it appears that leprosy no longer defiles him, 4 he will tell him what offerings to make by way of purgation for himself. These are, two living birds, of such a kind as may be used for food, cedar-wood, and scarlet stuff, and hyssop. 5 One of the birds must have its blood shed over spring water held in an earthenware pot; 6 the one which is left alive must be dipped (together with the cedar-wood, the scarlet stuff, and the hyssop) into the dead bird’s blood, 7 and with this the priest must sprinkle the defiled man seven times, to effect his due cleansing. Then the living bird must be allowed to fly away into the open. 8 And now the man must wash his clothes, shave the hair on his body, and bathe in water; so purified, he will enter the camp, but on the condition that he does not go into his tent for a whole week.
10 On the eighth day he will take two lambs and a yearling ewe, all without blemish, three tenths of a bushel of flour, kneaded with oil, for a bloodless offering, and a pint of oil besides. 11 The priest who is pronouncing him clean will bring him into the divine presence, together with these gifts of his, at the door of the tabernacle which bears record of me; 12 and there he will take one of the lambs and offer it as a victim for wrong done. He will take the pint of oil, too, and all the rest, and hold them up in the Lord’s presence. 13 The lamb must be immolated on holy ground, where the offerings for faults and the burnt-sacrifices are offered; and the victim for wrong done, like the victim for a fault, becomes the property of the priest; it is set apart for holy uses. |
14 καὶ λήμψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ τῆς πλημμελείας καὶ ἐπιθήσει ὁ ἱερεὺς ἐπὶ τὸν λοβὸν τοῦ ὠτὸς τοῦ καθαριζομένου τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς χειρὸς τῆς δεξιᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ ποδὸς τοῦ δεξιοῦ 15 καὶ λαβὼν ὁ ἱερεὺς ἀπὸ τῆς κοτύλης τοῦ ἐλαίου ἐπιχεεῖ ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρα τοῦ ἱερέως τὴν ἀριστερὰν 16 καὶ βάψει τὸν δάκτυλον τὸν δεξιὸν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐλαίου τοῦ ὄντος ἐπὶ τῆς χειρὸς τῆς ἀριστερᾶς καὶ ῥανεῖ ἑπτάκις τῷ δακτύλῳ ἔναντι κυρίου 17 τὸ δὲ καταλειφθὲν ἔλαιον τὸ ὂν ἐν τῇ χειρὶ ἐπιθήσει ὁ ἱερεὺς ἐπὶ τὸν λοβὸν τοῦ ὠτὸς τοῦ καθαριζομένου τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς χειρὸς τῆς δεξιᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ ποδὸς τοῦ δεξιοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ τῆς πλημμελείας 18 τὸ δὲ καταλειφθὲν ἔλαιον τὸ ἐπὶ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ ἱερέως ἐπιθήσει ὁ ἱερεὺς ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν τοῦ καθαρισθέντος καὶ ἐξιλάσεται περὶ αὐτοῦ ὁ ἱερεὺς ἔναντι κυρίου 19 καὶ ποιήσει ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας καὶ ἐξιλάσεται ὁ ἱερεὺς περὶ τοῦ ἀκαθάρτου τοῦ καθαριζομένου ἀπὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας αὐτοῦ καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο σφάξει ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμα 20 καὶ ἀνοίσει ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸ ὁλοκαύτωμα καὶ τὴν θυσίαν ἐπὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ ἐξιλάσεται περὶ αὐτοῦ ὁ ἱερεύς καὶ καθαρισθήσεται | 14 The priest will take some of the blood from this victim which is offered for wrong done, and set a mark with it on the man he is pronouncing clean; on the tip of his right ear, his right thumb, and the great toe of his right foot. 15 Then he will take some of the oil in his left hand, 16 dip a finger of his right hand in it, and sprinkle it seven times in the Lord’s presence. 17 The rest of the oil in his left hand he will use to anoint the man he is cleansing; over the victim’s blood smeared on ear and finger and toe, 18 and finally on his head. 19 So he will intercede for him in the Lord’s presence, and offer, first a sacrifice for his fault, then a burnt-sacrifice; 20 this he will put on the altar, with its accompanying gifts, and so the man will be duly declared clean. |
21 ἐὰν δὲ πένηται καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ μὴ εὑρίσκῃ λήμψεται ἀμνὸν ἕνα εἰς ὃ ἐπλημμέλησεν εἰς ἀφαίρεμα ὥστε ἐξιλάσασθαι περὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ δέκατον σεμιδάλεως πεφυραμένης ἐν ἐλαίῳ εἰς θυσίαν καὶ κοτύλην ἐλαίου μίαν 22 καὶ δύο τρυγόνας ἢ δύο νεοσσοὺς περιστερῶν ὅσα εὗρεν ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔσται ἡ μία περὶ ἁμαρτίας καὶ ἡ μία εἰς ὁλοκαύτωμα 23 καὶ προσοίσει αὐτὰ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ εἰς τὸ καθαρίσαι αὐτὸν πρὸς τὸν ἱερέα ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἔναντι κυρίου 24 καὶ λαβὼν ὁ ἱερεὺς τὸν ἀμνὸν τῆς πλημμελείας καὶ τὴν κοτύλην τοῦ ἐλαίου ἐπιθήσει αὐτὰ ἐπίθεμα ἔναντι κυρίου 25 καὶ σφάξει τὸν ἀμνὸν τῆς πλημμελείας καὶ λήμψεται ὁ ἱερεὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ τῆς πλημμελείας καὶ ἐπιθήσει ἐπὶ τὸν λοβὸν τοῦ ὠτὸς τοῦ καθαριζομένου τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς χειρὸς τῆς δεξιᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ ποδὸς τοῦ δεξιοῦ 26 καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐλαίου ἐπιχεεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρα τοῦ ἱερέως τὴν ἀριστεράν 27 καὶ ῥανεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τῷ δακτύλῳ τῷ δεξιῷ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐλαίου τοῦ ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τῇ ἀριστερᾷ ἑπτάκις ἔναντι κυρίου 28 καὶ ἐπιθήσει ὁ ἱερεὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐλαίου τοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν λοβὸν τοῦ ὠτὸς τοῦ καθαριζομένου τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ τῆς δεξιᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ ἄκρον τοῦ ποδὸς αὐτοῦ τοῦ δεξιοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ τῆς πλημμελείας 29 τὸ δὲ καταλειφθὲν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἐλαίου τὸ ὂν ἐπὶ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ ἱερέως ἐπιθήσει ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν τοῦ καθαρισθέντος καὶ ἐξιλάσεται περὶ αὐτοῦ ὁ ἱερεὺς ἔναντι κυρίου 30 καὶ ποιήσει μίαν τῶν τρυγόνων ἢ ἀπὸ τῶν νεοσσῶν τῶν περιστερῶν καθότι εὗρεν αὐτοῦ ἡ χείρ 31 τὴν μίαν περὶ ἁμαρτίας καὶ τὴν μίαν εἰς ὁλοκαύτωμα σὺν τῇ θυσίᾳ καὶ ἐξιλάσεται ὁ ἱερεὺς περὶ τοῦ καθαριζομένου ἔναντι κυρίου 32 οὗτος ὁ νόμος ἐν ᾧ ἐστιν ἡ ἁφὴ τῆς λέπρας καὶ τοῦ μὴ εὑρίσκοντος τῇ χειρὶ εἰς τὸν καθαρισμὸν αὐτοῦ | 21 If he is poor, and cannot lay his hand on all the victims aforesaid, he must bring a lamb by way of offering for wrong done, with which the priest will make intercession for him, the tenth of a bushel of flour, kneaded with oil, for a bloodless offering, and a pint of oil, 22 and two turtle-doves or two young pigeons, one by way of offering for his fault, and the other as a burnt-sacrifice. 23 These he will bring before the priest at the tabernacle door in the divine presence, on the eighth day of the cleansing. 24 The priest will take the lamb, the offering for wrong done, and the pint of oil, and hold them up together; 25 then he will immolate the lamb, and set a mark with its blood on the man he is pronouncing clean, on the right ear, the right thumb, the great toe of the right foot. 26 Then he will take some of the oil in his left hand, 27 dip in his right hand, sprinkle the oil seven times in the Lord’s presence, 28 anoint the stains on ear, thumb and toe, 29 and pour the rest of the oil in his hand over the head of the man who is being cleansed, to win him the Lord’s favour again. 30 Finally he will offer the two birds, whether turtle-dove, or young pigeon; 31 one of them as for a fault and one by way of burnt-sacrifice, together with the gifts that accompany it. 32 Such is the offering to be made by a leper who cannot afford the full price of his cleansing.
35 If so, the owner of it will go and tell the priest that his house is suspect of leprosy; 36 and the priest, before going to ascertain whether it is leprous or not, will have everything taken out of the house, for fear that all its contents might become defiled. Then he will go in to examine the infection in the house; 37 and if he sees dents in the surface of the walls that are pale or reddish in colour, 38 he will go out of doors and shut the house up for a week. 39 And if, when he comes back to examine it on the seventh day, he finds that the infection has spread, 40 he will order the stones that are infected to be prised out, and thrown into a refuse pit, away from the city; 41 the inside of the house, too, must be scraped all round, and the dust scraped from it must also be scattered over the refuse pit. 42 Then other stones will be put in, in place of the old, and the house will be plastered afresh. |
43 ἐὰν δὲ ἐπέλθῃ πάλιν ἁφὴ καὶ ἀνατείλῃ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ μετὰ τὸ ἐξελεῖν τοὺς λίθους καὶ μετὰ τὸ ἀποξυσθῆναι τὴν οἰκίαν καὶ μετὰ τὸ ἐξαλειφθῆναι 44 καὶ εἰσελεύσεται ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ὄψεται εἰ διακέχυται ἡ ἁφὴ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ λέπρα ἔμμονός ἐστιν ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἀκάθαρτός ἐστιν 45 καὶ καθελοῦσιν τὴν οἰκίαν καὶ τὰ ξύλα αὐτῆς καὶ τοὺς λίθους αὐτῆς καὶ πάντα τὸν χοῦν ἐξοίσουσιν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως εἰς τόπον ἀκάθαρτον 46 καὶ ὁ εἰσπορευόμενος εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἃς ἀφωρισμένη ἐστίν ἀκάθαρτος ἔσται ἕως ἑσπέρας 47 καὶ ὁ κοιμώμενος ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ πλυνεῖ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀκάθαρτος ἔσται ἕως ἑσπέρας καὶ ὁ ἔσθων ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ πλυνεῖ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀκάθαρτος ἔσται ἕως ἑσπέρας | 43 If, after the removal of the stones, and the scraping, and the new plastering, 44 the priest comes in and finds that the infection has returned, and the walls are still disfigured with spots, this is malignant leprosy, and the house is unclean. 45 It must be destroyed at once, stone and wood and plaster alike must be thrown into a refuse pit, away from the town. 46 Anyone who has entered it since the priest shut it up will be unclean till evening comes, 47 and anyone who has slept or eaten there must wash his clothes. |
48 ἐὰν δὲ παραγενόμενος εἰσέλθῃ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ ἴδῃ καὶ ἰδοὺ διαχύσει οὐ διαχεῖται ἡ ἁφὴ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ μετὰ τὸ ἐξαλειφθῆναι τὴν οἰκίαν καὶ καθαριεῖ ὁ ἱερεὺς τὴν οἰκίαν ὅτι ἰάθη ἡ ἁφή 49 καὶ λήμψεται ἀφαγνίσαι τὴν οἰκίαν δύο ὀρνίθια ζῶντα καθαρὰ καὶ ξύλον κέδρινον καὶ κεκλωσμένον κόκκινον καὶ ὕσσωπον 50 καὶ σφάξει τὸ ὀρνίθιον τὸ ἓν εἰς σκεῦος ὀστράκινον ἐ{F'} ὕδατι ζῶντι 51 καὶ λήμψεται τὸ ξύλον τὸ κέδρινον καὶ τὸ κεκλωσμένον κόκκινον καὶ τὸν ὕσσωπον καὶ τὸ ὀρνίθιον τὸ ζῶν καὶ βάψει αὐτὸ εἰς τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ὀρνιθίου τοῦ ἐσφαγμένου ἐ{F'} ὕδατι ζῶντι καὶ περιρρανεῖ ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐπὶ τὴν οἰκίαν ἑπτάκις 52 καὶ ἀφαγνιεῖ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐν τῷ αἵματι τοῦ ὀρνιθίου καὶ ἐν τῷ ὕδατι τῷ ζῶντι καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀρνιθίῳ τῷ ζῶντι καὶ ἐν τῷ ξύλῳ τῷ κεδρίνῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ ὑσσώπῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ κεκλωσμένῳ κοκκίνῳ 53 καὶ ἐξαποστελεῖ τὸ ὀρνίθιον τὸ ζῶν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως εἰς τὸ πεδίον καὶ ἐξιλάσεται περὶ τῆς οἰκίας καὶ καθαρὰ ἔσται | 48 But if the priest finds that the infection has not spread in the house after the new plastering, he will cleanse it, in token that it is now free of disease. 49 To effect this cleansing, he will take two birds, some cedar-wood, and scarlet stuff, and hyssop, 50 shed the blood of one bird into spring water in an earthenware pot, 51 dip the cedar-wood, the scarlet stuff, the hyssop, and the living bird into the water stained with the dead bird’s blood, and sprinkle it over the house seven times. 52 So, by the use of blood and water and a living bird and cedar-wood and hyssop and scarlet stuff, the cleansing will be effected; 53 and letting the bird fly away into the open, the priest will make intercession for the house, and it will be duly declared clean. |
54 οὗτος ὁ νόμος κατὰ πᾶσαν ἁφὴν λέπρας καὶ θραύσματος 55 καὶ τῆς λέπρας ἱματίου καὶ οἰκίας 56 καὶ οὐλῆς καὶ σημασίας καὶ τοῦ αὐγάζοντος 57 καὶ τοῦ ἐξηγήσασθαι ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἀκάθαρτον καὶ ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ καθαρισθήσεται οὗτος ὁ νόμος τῆς λέπρας | 54 Such are the rules for all leprosy and scab, 55 for the infection that breaks out in garments or in houses, 56 for scars and ulcers, and for shiny patches on the skin that change their colour; 57 such are the means for ascertaining when it is time to declare anything clean or unclean. |
