 (Of David.) Ipsi David.
1 τῷ Δαυιδ δίκασον κύριε τοὺς ἀδικοῦντάς με πολέμησον τοὺς πολεμοῦντάς με 2 ἐπιλαβοῦ ὅπλου καὶ θυρεοῦ καὶ ἀνάστηθι εἰς βοήθειάν μου 3 ἔκχεον ῥομφαίαν καὶ σύγκλεισον ἐξ ἐναντίας τῶν καταδιωκόντων με εἰπὸν τῇ ψυχῇ μου σωτηρία σου ἐγώ εἰμι 4 αἰσχυνθήτωσαν καὶ ἐντραπήτωσαν οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀποστραφήτωσαν εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω καὶ καταισχυνθήτωσαν οἱ λογιζόμενοί μοι κακά 5 γενηθήτωσαν ὡσεὶ χνοῦς κατὰ πρόσωπον ἀνέμου καὶ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐκθλίβων αὐτούς 6 γενηθήτω ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτῶν σκότος καὶ ὀλίσθημα καὶ ἄγγελος κυρίου καταδιώκων αὐτούς 7 ὅτι δωρεὰν ἔκρυψάν μοι διαφθορὰν παγίδος αὐτῶν μάτην ὠνείδισαν τὴν ψυχήν μου 8 ἐλθέτω αὐτοῖς παγίς ἣν οὐ γινώσκουσιν καὶ ἡ θήρα ἣν ἔκρυψαν συλλαβέτω αὐτούς καὶ ἐν τῇ παγίδι πεσοῦνται ἐν αὐτῇ 9 ἡ δὲ ψυχή μου ἀγαλλιάσεται ἐπὶ τῷ κυρίῳ τερφθήσεται ἐπὶ τῷ σωτηρίῳ αὐτοῦ 10 πάντα τὰ ὀστᾶ μου ἐροῦσιν κύριε τίς ὅμοιός σοι ῥυόμενος πτωχὸν ἐκ χειρὸς στερεωτέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ πτωχὸν καὶ πένητα ἀπὸ τῶν διαρπαζόντων αὐτόν 11 ἀναστάντες μάρτυρες ἄδικοι ἃ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον ἠρώτων με 12 ἀνταπεδίδοσάν μοι πονηρὰ ἀντὶ καλῶν καὶ ἀτεκνίαν τῇ ψυχῇ μου 13 ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν τῷ αὐτοὺς παρενοχλεῖν μοι ἐνεδυόμην σάκκον καὶ ἐταπείνουν ἐν νηστείᾳ τὴν ψυχήν μου καὶ ἡ προσευχή μου εἰς κόλπον μου ἀποστραφήσεται 14 ὡς πλησίον ὡς ἀδελφὸν ἡμέτερον οὕτως εὐηρέστουν ὡς πενθῶν καὶ σκυθρωπάζων οὕτως ἐταπεινούμην 15 καὶ κα{T'} ἐμοῦ ηὐφράνθησαν καὶ συνήχθησαν συνήχθησαν ἐ{P'} ἐμὲ μάστιγες καὶ οὐκ ἔγνων διεσχίσθησαν καὶ οὐ κατενύγησαν 16 ἐπείρασάν με ἐξεμυκτήρισάν με μυκτηρισμόν ἔβρυξαν ἐ{P'} ἐμὲ τοὺς ὀδόντας αὐτῶν 17 κύριε πότε ἐπόψῃ ἀποκατάστησον τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπὸ τῆς κακουργίας αὐτῶν ἀπὸ λεόντων τὴν μονογενῆ μου 18 ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι κύριε ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ πολλῇ ἐν λαῷ βαρεῖ αἰνέσω σε 19 μὴ ἐπιχαρείησάν μοι οἱ ἐχθραίνοντές μοι ἀδίκως οἱ μισοῦντές με δωρεὰν καὶ διανεύοντες ὀφθαλμοῖς 1 Lord, espouse my quarrel; disarm the enemies who rise in arms against me; 2 grip target and shield, bestir thyself in my defence. 3 With poised lance, bar the way against my pursuers; whisper in my heart, I am here to save thee. 4 For my mortal enemies, shame and disappointment; for my ill-wishers one and all, ruin and remorse; 5 chaff before the wind, with the angel of the Lord to scatter them, 6 benighted and bemired on their way, with the angel of the Lord in pursuit! 7 Wantonly they have spread their nets for me, wantonly they have dug the cruel snare; 8 now let sudden doom overtake them, their own nets enmesh, their own snare entrap them! 9 Mine to triumph in the Lord, to boast of the aid he brings me; 10 this be the cry of my whole being, There is none like thee, Lord; who else rescues the afflicted from the hand of tyranny, the poor, the destitute, from his oppressors? 11 See how perjured witnesses have come forward, to browbeat me over charges of which I know nothing; 12 how they have repaid my kindness with cruelty, and left me friendless! 13 Time was, when these were sick;[1] what did I then? Sackcloth was my wear; rigorously I kept fast, prayed from my heart’s depths. 14 I went my way sadly, as one that mourns for brother or friend, bowed with grief, as one that bewails a mother’s loss. 15 And now it was my turn to reel under fortune’s blows; what did they? 16 Gleeful they met, and plotted to attack me unawares; tore at me without ceasing, baited and mocked me, gnashing their teeth in hatred. 17 Lord, wilt thou look on unheeding still? Wilt thou leave my life at the mercy of these roaring lions? 18 Let me live to praise and thank thee before the multitude that throngs thy courts. 19 No more the leer of triumph in the eye of yonder treacherous foe, that wantonly assails me! 1 Judica, Domine, nocentes me;
expugna impugnantes me.
2
Apprehende arma et scutum,
et exsurge in adjutorium mihi.
3
Effunde frameam, et conclude adversus eos qui persequuntur me;
dic animæ meæ: Salus tua ego sum.
4
Confundantur et revereantur quærentes animam meam;
avertantur retrorsum et confundantur cogitantes mihi mala.
5
Fiant tamquam pulvis ante faciem venti,
et angelus Domini coarctans eos.
6
Fiat via illorum tenebræ et lubricum,
et angelus Domini persequens eos.
7
Quoniam gratis absconderunt mihi interitum laquei sui; supervacue exprobraverunt animam meam.
8
Veniat illi laqueus quem ignorat,
et captio quam abscondit apprehendat eum,
et in laqueum cadat in ipsum.
9
Anima autem mea exsultabit in Domino,
et delectabitur super salutari suo.
10
Omnia ossa mea dicent:
Domine, quis similis tibi?
eripiens inopem de manu fortiorum ejus;
egenum et pauperem a diripientibus eum.
11
Surgentes testes iniqui,
quæ ignorabam interrogabant me.
12
Retribuebant mihi mala pro bonis,
sterilitatem animæ meæ.
13
Ego autem, cum mihi molesti essent, induebar cilicio;
humiliabam in jejunio animam meam,
et oratio mea in sinu meo convertetur.
14
Quasi proximum et quasi fratrem nostrum sic complacebam;
quasi lugens et contristatus sic humiliabar.
15
Et adversum me lætati sunt, et convenerunt;
congregata sunt super me flagella, et ignoravi.
16
Dissipati sunt, nec compuncti;
tentaverunt me, subsannaverunt me subsannatione;
frenduerunt super me dentibus suis.
17
Domine, quando respicies?
Restitue animam meam a malignitate eorum;
a leonibus unicam meam.
18
Confitebor tibi in ecclesia magna; in populo gravi laudabo te.
19
Non supergaudeant mihi qui adversantur mihi inique,
qui oderunt me gratis, et annuunt oculis.
21 See how they mop and mow at me, crying out, Joy, joy that we should have lived to see this! 22 Thou too, Lord, hast seen it, do not pass it by in silence; Lord, do not abandon me. 23 Bestir thyself and take my part, give me speedy redress, my Lord and my God. 24 As thou art just, O Lord my God, give thy award for me, never let them triumph over me; 25 never let them think, All goes well, and boast that they have made a prey of me. 26 Disappoint them, fill them with confusion, the men who delight in my misfortune; cover them with shame and self-reproach, the enemies that triumph over me. 27 Joy and gladness be theirs, who applaud my innocence; Praise to the Lord! be their cry, the Lord who defends his servant. 28 And all day long, for thy just awarding, this tongue shall make known thy praise. 20
Quoniam mihi quidem pacifice loquebantur;
et in iracundia terræ loquentes, dolos cogitabant.
21
Et dilataverunt super me os suum;
dixerunt: Euge, euge! viderunt oculi nostri.
22
Vidisti, Domine: ne sileas;
Domine, ne discedas a me.
23
Exsurge et intende judicio meo, Deus meus;
et Dominus meus, in causam meam.
24
Judica me secundum justitiam tuam, Domine Deus meus,
et non supergaudeant mihi.
25
Non dicant in cordibus suis: Euge, euge, animæ nostræ;
nec dicant: Devoravimus eum.
26
Erubescant et revereantur simul qui gratulantur malis meis;
induantur confusione et reverentia qui magna loquuntur super me.
27
Exsultent et lætentur qui volunt justitiam meam;
et dicant semper: Magnificetur Dominus, qui volunt pacem servi ejus.
28
Et lingua mea meditabitur justitiam tuam;
tota die laudem tuam.
