(Of David. A psalm.) | Psalmus ipsi David. |
1 τῷ Δαυιδ ψαλμός ἔλεος καὶ κρίσιν ᾄσομαί σοι κύριε 2 ψαλῶ καὶ συνήσω ἐν ὁδῷ ἀμώμῳ πότε ἥξεις πρός με διεπορευόμην ἐν ἀκακίᾳ καρδίας μου ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ οἴκου μου 3 οὐ προεθέμην πρὸ ὀφθαλμῶν μου πρᾶγμα παράνομον ποιοῦντας παραβάσεις ἐμίσησα 4 οὐκ ἐκολλήθη μοι καρδία σκαμβή ἐκκλίνοντος ἀ{P'} ἐμοῦ τοῦ πονηροῦ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον 5 τὸν καταλαλοῦντα λάθρᾳ τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ τοῦτον ἐξεδίωκον ὑπερηφάνῳ ὀφθαλμῷ καὶ ἀπλήστῳ καρδίᾳ τούτῳ οὐ συνήσθιον 6 οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἐπὶ τοὺς πιστοὺς τῆς γῆς τοῦ συγκαθῆσθαι αὐτοὺς με{T'} ἐμοῦ πορευόμενος ἐν ὁδῷ ἀμώμῳ οὗτός μοι ἐλειτούργει 7 οὐ κατῴκει ἐν μέσῳ τῆς οἰκίας μου ποιῶν ὑπερηφανίαν λαλῶν ἄδικα οὐ κατεύθυνεν ἐναντίον τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν μου 8 εἰς τὰς πρωίας ἀπέκτεννον πάντας τοὺς ἁμαρτωλοὺς τῆς γῆς τοῦ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι ἐκ πόλεως κυρίου πάντας τοὺς ἐργαζομένους τὴν ἀνομίαν | 1 Of mercy and of justice my song shall be; a psalm in thy honour, Lord, 2 from one that would guide his steps ever more perfectly. Ah, when wilt thou grant me thy presence?[1] Here in my house I would live with stainless heart; 3 no ill purpose clouding my view, the transgressors of the law my enemies. 4 None such will I have at my side; here treachery shall find no place, knavery no countenance; 5 of whispered calumny, death shall be the reward; on scornful looks and proud thoughts I will have no mercy. 6 To plain, honest folk in the land I will look for my company; my servants shall be such as follow the path of innocence. 7 No welcome here for schemers, no standing in my presence for men who talk deceitfully. 8 Mine, as the days pass, to root out from the land every guilty soul, till I purge the Lord’s city of all evil-doing. | 1 Misericordiam et judicium cantabo tibi, Domine; psallam, 2 et intelligam in via immaculata: quando venies ad me? Perambulabam in innocentia cordis mei, in medio domus meæ. |
[1] This is thought by some commentators to mean the coming of the Ark to Jerusalem (II Kg. 6).
